Card #7275 Bees and Honey
Bees travel great distances to gather nectar to make honey. A hive of bees has to collectively fly approximately 50,000 to 55,000 miles to make a pound of honey. The Earth's equator is 24,902 miles, so bees must fly more than twice the distance around the Earth to make just one pound of honey.

Experts differ slightly about the distance bees travel, but the bees' effort is none the less marvelous.
Ponder This: If bees didn't work so hard to gather nectar, what would happen to the pollination of our flowers and plants? Knowing how important bees are to the survival of humans, are you less afraid of them? Are you less likely to step on a bee? What other insects are you afraid of which are important to human survival? Without bees working so hard to gather nectar, and, in the process pollinating so many flowers and plants, there would be no humans.
